What is nature-freeing?
Nature-proofing, also known as discouraging, is the process of keeping protected species out of buildings in an animal-friendly manner before renovation, demolition or preservation work begins.
The goal of nature clearance is to ensure that animals such as bats, house sparrows and other building-dwelling species leave the building and settle elsewhere before work begins. This work always takes place during the least vulnerable period for the species. Usually this is after the breeding season of birds and after the maternity period of bats, but before winter dormancy. In practice, September and October are often the most appropriate months for wildlife clearance.
