Description

Frequently asked questions

Suitable for
This Rocket Bat Box has been designed for building-dwelling bat species. As a summer roost, mating roost and maternity roost, it is specifically suitable for common pipistrelles, Nathusius’ pipistrelles and soprano pipistrelles.

The Rocket Bat Box also has potential as a roost for serotines and long-eared bats. In addition, tree-dwelling bat species such as noctules, whiskered bats and Brandt’s bats may also use the box.

Design
The design is based on the principle of a rocket box. The core of the Rocket Bat Box consists of four vertical spaces arranged around the pole. Vertical and horizontal battens have been fitted inside these spaces to provide bats with additional crevices and hiding opportunities.

Both the inside and outside of the Rocket Bat Box are finished with a layer of biological spray cork. Spray cork gives the box a high level of durability and provides bats with excellent grip on the inside. Another advantage of spray cork is its insulating effect.

Durability of the pole
We recommend fitting a pole protector to ensure that the pole has a sufficient service life. If the Rocket Bat Box is intended to remain in place for more than five years, we recommend using a steel pole. A Rocket Bat Box with a steel pole can also be supplied at an additional cost. Please discuss this with your sales adviser when ordering.

Position
We recommend installing the Rocket Bat Box close to an existing bat flight route, preferably near enclosed water or tall vegetation. Do not install it near lighting, busy roads or busy paths.

Installation
To install the Rocket Bat Box, first drill or dig a hole approximately 1 metre deep. The pole is then placed in the hole. The top section of the box can then be mounted onto the pole, for example using a mobile elevating work platform.
