This nest box is designed specifically for little owls. The principles of the box build on years of principles and sizing used for little owl boxes.
Application
The little owl is a specifically protected species. Spatial developments may result in the disappearance of owl habitats. In such cases, one solution is to install an owl box as an alternative habitat. In addition, owl boxes are also suitable for strengthening an existing habitat.
Design
The design of the hive is based on the STONE-little owl box. The box is equipped with a lock that makes it very difficult for stone martens to enter the box. The barn owl box has a sloping roof that is removable via four screws. At the front of the box is a porch so that owls can easily sit in front of the box. Ventilation openings are included in the box to prevent excessive heating.
Position
Place the little owl hive in a sheltered spot in a tree or on a wall. A height between two and five feet is ideal.
Placement
Before placement, apply a layer of fine wood chips to the nest box. A layer of about four inches is sufficient. Mount the hive via mounting points in the side cheeks of the hive, or use corner irons. Provide a branch or beam in front of the box so that young birds can easily walk out of the box.
