Kestrels are common residents of the countryside. This nest box has been specifically designed as a nesting site for kestrels.
Application
Kestrels occur in many places across the countryside. A few fields of grassland and a hedgerow are often enough for a kestrel to use an area. However, the limiting factor is often the availability of suitable nesting sites. By installing a kestrel box, nesting opportunities can be provided easily.
Design
The box is made from robust 18 mm waterproof plywood. The outside of the box is finished with green paint. The box can be mounted using the fixing openings in the rear panel. Several drainage openings have been included in the base of the box to immediately drain away any water that may blow into the box.
Position
Install the kestrel box on a tree or pole at the edge of an arable field or meadow. Position the box at a height of approximately 6 m and face it towards the south-east. Make sure the kestrel has a clear view. Kestrels prefer boxes from which they can overlook their foraging area.
Installation
The kestrel box can be easily mounted on a wall, pole or tree. Fixing openings are provided in the rear panel of the box for this purpose. During installation, place a thin layer of fine wood chips inside the box.
