Creating a healthy living environment
EcoHabitatRoof increases green space within urban environments. It creates unique habitats that support biodiversity and contribute to a healthier living environment for people. In addition, the green roof helps reduce rainwater runoff during periods of heavy rainfall. Another benefit of EcoHabitatRoof is its contribution to reducing the urban heat island effect. By retaining and evaporating water, the green roof provides natural cooling, helping to lower temperatures in the surrounding area. This contributes to a more pleasant microclimate and can help reduce the demand for energy used for cooling.
Roof-dwelling birds
Many coastal and farmland bird species are under increasing pressure, as safe nesting sites are disappearing at a rapid rate. As a result, many species are seeking refuge on rooftops. Due to their elevated position, roofs can provide ideal nesting sites for roof nesting bird species. Creating a suitable habitat for these species requires several key elements, including suitable nesting substrate or nest boxes, shelter and cover, access to water and, in some cases, food sources. Not every roof is suitable for every species. EcoHabitatRoof® provides the flexibility to tailor each roof to the requirements of specific species.
Seed bank of native species
Native plant species with genuinely local origins are under increasing pressure. The widespread use of commercial wildflower mixtures and garden plants can dilute the unique genetic characteristics of local plant populations. EcoHabitatRoof® uses native species of local provenance sourced from Dutch natural habitats. The species rich wildflower vegetation mix contains more than forty species. After flowering, some of the seeds are naturally dispersed by the wind into the surrounding area. As a result, your roof becomes a local seed bank of native plant material.
