This basic butterfly brick has been specially designed as a shelter provision for overwintering butterflies. The brick can be easily incorporated into masonry.
Within this product line, similar products are also available for other target species, such as the GZP2 (swift), HMP2 (house sparrow), SPP1 (starling), ISP1 (insects), and HOP1 (semi-cave breeders).
Suitable for
This box has been specifically designed as a shelter for butterflies during cold and wet periods.
Design
The box is made from woodcrete. During the design process, specific attention was paid to the depth of the box. Thanks to its limited depth, the box remains outside the cavity space.
Because of its discreet design, the box can be installed in almost any façade type. If the box is installed slightly recessed, it can be finished with brick slips or render, allowing it to be integrated completely invisibly into the façade.
Several boxes can also be incorporated into the façade at different locations.
Tips for mounting
Install the box in a sheltered position, out of the wind and where rain cannot enter. The installation height is not important. At eye level, however, you can check whether the box is being used.
Fill the box with a small amount of dry leaves and twigs, and it becomes a true hotel for butterflies. Make sure there is a food-rich environment nearby, with plenty of native flowers from early spring through to late summer.
Cleaning the box is not necessary. Butterflies do not use it as a nest, so it does not become very dirty.
