Natuurinclusief hoofdkantoor woningcorporatie Casade Kaatsheuvel met circulaire gevel

New Headquarters Housing Corporation Casade

Circular construction and biodiversity

Casade’s design focuses on reuse and ecology. More than 50 percent of the materials are circular, including doors and plumbing fixtures. Natural insulation and rainwater harvesting for the green facades enhance the building’s sustainable performance.

Applied fauna provisions.

Unitura implemented several facilities for local wildlife:

These facilities are strikingly positioned. This makes the project a frame of reference for nature-inclusive building at Casade toward tenants and partners.

Circular construction

Circular construction principles were applied during the development of Casade’s new office in Kaatsheuvel. A circular economy focuses on minimising waste and making the most efficient use of raw materials. Rather than the traditional linear model of producing, using and disposing, circular construction prioritises reuse, repair and recycling. This extends the lifespan of materials, reduces waste streams and limits environmental impact, contributing to a more sustainable and future-proof built environment.

At Casade’s headquarters, more than half of the materials have either been given a second life or are designed for future reuse. Existing doors and sanitary facilities, for example, were carefully reused within the project. Sustainability also played a central role throughout the development: natural insulation materials were applied, a large share of the building’s energy demand is generated sustainably, and rainwater is collected to irrigate the green façades and surrounding planting.

New construction and renovation projects

Unitura and Casade have worked closely together on numerous new-build and renovation projects in recent years. Across these developments, Unitura’s integrated fauna provisions, including the GZP2, HMP2 and VMPM, have been widely applied to support nature-inclusive construction.
More recently, Unitura developed two new wood-concrete nesting solutions specifically designed for renovation projects: the GZP4 and HMP4 for swifts and house sparrows. Thanks to the durable wood-concrete material, these integrated nesting boxes provide both a long service life and a stable internal climate, creating optimal conditions for nesting birds.

Thanks to their shallow depth – only 100 mm – they can even be built into facades with limited cavity space. The clever construction prevents water ingress and protects against predators, while the sloping canopy ensures that rainwater is drained naturally.
The GZP4 provides a safe nesting site for swifts, and the HMP4 is specifically tailored to house sparrows, which like to nest in groups. These boxes can be placed either singly or in clusters.
