This surface-mounted nest cup is designed for installation on external walls. The nest is made entirely from woodcrete, providing a durable and long-lasting wildlife provision.
Suitable for
This artificial nest has been specifically developed to provide a suitable nesting site for barn swallows (Hirundo rustica). It is manufactured from woodcrete, a durable and natural material free from chemical additives. Barn swallows typically nest inside buildings such as stables, barns and sheds, or under covered structures. They are commonly found in locations close to livestock, including horses, cattle and pigs.
Positioning
Install the nest cup inside a stable, barn or under a covered structure such as a carport. Mount the nest directly beneath the ceiling
Maintain a minimum gap of 4 cm between the ceiling and the rim of the nest. Although barn swallows often breed in groups, they prefer some spacing between nests. When installing multiple nest cups, ensure sufficient distance between them. The likelihood of occupancy is highest in locations in close proximity to livestock.
Maintenance
The nest cup is low-maintenance. To keep it in optimal condition, it is recommended to clean the nest once per year, preferably at the end of the breeding season (around October). This ensures the nest remains attractive for future broods.
